Custom Jewelry Plating & Finishes

Choose a finish around the jewelry and the way your customers will wear it. HonHo offers PVD and electroplating options for stainless steel, brass and 925 sterling silver, with thickness and protection reviewed against your color, wear target and budget.

Three routes to review

Choose the Finish for Your Base Metal

The process and complete layer structure belong in the quotation. A gold color alone does not describe the finish.

01

Stainless steel + PVD

Our usual specification pairs a 0.5 μm titanium nitride support layer with 0.03–0.10 μm of gold. Higher gold thicknesses can be reviewed and quoted for suitable projects.

02

Brass or 925 silver + electroplating

Gold electroplating can be specified from 0.03 to 5 μm. We review the underlayer and any clear protective coat with the design, target price and expected use.

03

Brass or 925 silver + PVD

Selected designs can use this alternative where construction and surface preparation allow. Our current offering excludes styles containing cubic zirconia; send the design for a suitability review.

Color and surface

Approve the Color Across the Whole Collection

A polished ring and a textured pendant can reflect the same finish differently. Send a physical color reference where possible, and include the complete group of products that needs to match.

We review the gold-layer thickness and coating recipe together. Gold, rose-gold and white finishes also need a clear surface specification: polished, brushed, matte or textured. White-finish electroplating can be reviewed up to 0.1 μm, with the exact plating metal confirmed in the quote.

Beyond the gold layer

Add Protection Where It Helps

For suitable PVD products, AF protection or a gold-protection treatment can be added after plating to help improve resistance to water, perspiration and everyday exposure.

For brass and 925 silver electroplating, we can review a palladium underlayer from 0.03 to 0.20 μm and a thicker clear e-coat. The combination is selected around the design and approved appearance.

Wear also depends on friction, care and exposure. We agree the finished-sample checks with you instead of choosing a coating by thickness alone.

Sample and quality review

Put the Agreed Finish in Writing

Your approved specification should name the base metal, each coating layer, the target thickness, color reference and extra protection. Gold thickness and the TiN support layer are recorded separately.

Tell us which tests your project requires. We can review XRF measurements and relevant wear or salt-spray checks, with the method and acceptance criteria agreed before production.

Questions buyers ask

Before You Choose the Finish

Straight answers to help you prepare the brief.

Does 0.5 μm TiN mean 0.5 μm of gold?

No. TiN is the support layer. Our standard PVD gold layer is generally 0.03–0.10 μm, with higher specifications reviewed separately. Ask for both layer thicknesses in the quotation.

Can you match our existing gold color?

Send a physical reference and the products that need to match. We review the surface, coating recipe and gold thickness, then sample the agreed finish for approval.

Can brass jewelry be finished with PVD?

Selected brass and 925 silver designs can be reviewed for PVD. The construction must suit the process, and styles containing cubic zirconia are excluded from this offering.

What information do you need for a plating quotation?

Send the design, base material, quantity per color, finish reference and desired wear performance. If you have not chosen a thickness, tell us the target price and use so we can compare suitable options.
